After watching the USMNT game against Portugal last week, it without a doubt John Brooks should be captain going forward. He only played a half, and yes it was just a friendly, but that friendly meant something to the US.
There was some sporadic play but there was a calmness to the back four. That calmness was provided by Brooks, who started the game along side Matt Miazga. He set the tone. I fully believe that if he were healthy in that devastating loss against Trinidad, he would have been the difference. Going forward, he should be a consensus pick to bring up the young defenders like Miazga, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Erik Palmer-Brown.
No offense to Michael Bradley, but there is a new era in US Mens soccer, and that era should start with John Brooks as our captain going forward.
